Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu

Site-based Program

Our Site-based mentoring program offers volunteer mentors the opportunity to meet with a child, one-on-one, at an elementary school or community site for about an hour each week during the school year. As a Site-based volunteer, you will meet along side other Bigs and Littles and play games, tutor or just talk with the child with whom you are matched. Site-based volunteers must be high school age or older.

You and your Little Brother or Sister will be supported by an agency representative who will be at each mentoring session to answer any questions you may have, provide assistance and keep you informed about special events, activities and agency happenings.

Through partnerships with several organizations, the site-based program has been able to offer matches enriching educational and cultural activities.

Art to Go

Art to Go is a special art and site-based mentoring program made possible through the generosity of the Honolulu Academy of Arts.  Bigs and Littles in the Art to Go program receive professional art instruction and complimentary art supplies. Participants who have exhibited natural artistic abilities have been awarded art scholarships to the Academy.

During the month of June, an art exhibition showcased the artwork created by mentors and children in the program.  Beautiful  paintings, ceramics sculptures and mixed media art were on display at the Cathedral Gallery.

Mentoring With Music

The ukulele music program, started in August 2005, is made possible through a donation of ukulele from the Ukulele Guild of Hawaii as a part of their Ukes for Kids project. Bigs and Littles meet and learn to play the ukulele together under expert instruction.  In the ukulele music program, mentors and children create beautiful music while starting equally beautiful friendships.
