Big Brothers Big Sisters Timeline

• 1904: Big Brothers Big Sisters of America was established as a mentoring program to support youth across the country.
• 1963: Big Brothers of Hawaii was founded to benefit "fatherless" boys on Oahu.
• 1972: Hawaii Big Sisters was founded for girls in single-parent families.
• 1979: Big Brothers of Hawaii and Hawaii Big Sisters merge to form Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu.
• 2003: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu celebrates 40 years of serving Hawaii's youth
• 2004: Big Brothers Big Sisters of America celebrates 100th Anniversary

Currently, across the nation, there are nearly 500 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies offering mentoring services to youth.
