Welcome to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu !

Our Mission

The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu is to help children become responsible adults by matching them in professionally supported one-to-one relationships with volunteer mentors who create a positive, lasting impact simply by sharing their friendship, guidance and support.

Our impact

A national study conducted by a private research group examined the impact of mentoring on youth and found that when compared to their peers, Little Brothers and Little Sisters who met with their Bigs regularly were:

  • 46% less likely to start using drugs
  • 27% less likely to start drinking
  • 52% less likely to skip a day of school
  • 33% less likely to hit someone

 Our Programs
Community-Based

Our community-based mentoring program offers volunteer mentors the opportunity to meet with a child, one-on-one, for a few hours each month at times that are convenient for both the volunteer and child. As a community-based volunteer, you can get together with your Little Brother or Little Sister and plan activities that you'll both enjoy like playing sports, watching movies or just hanging out. community-based volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and be prepared to be matched with a child for close to a year.

You and your Little Brother or Sister will be supported by an agency representative who will be available to answer any questions you may have, provide assistance and keep you informed about special events, activities and agency happenings.

School-Based

Our site-based mentoring program offers volunteer mentors the opportunity to meet with a child, one-on-one, at an elementary school or community site for about an hour each week during the school year. As a site-based volunteer, you will meet along side other Bigs and Littles and play games, tutor or just talk with the child with whom you are matched. site-based volunteers must be high school age or older.

You and your Little Brother or Sister will be supported by an agency representative who will be at each mentoring session to answer any questions you may have, provide assistance and keep you informed about special events, activities and agency happenings.
