Bridge to the Future - Actus Lend Lease & Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu Partnership

A partnership with Actus Lend Lease and the Construction Academy at Waipahu High School resulted in a specially designed program appropriately named Construction Internship: Bridge to the Future. This unique collaboration allows high school students an opportunity to not only be personally mentored by a Actus employee in the field of construction, but also rewards student participants with summer internships at Actus Lend Lease.

This past school year the Actus Bigs met their student protégés at Waipahu High School where together they worked on various projects and activities. One of the challenges presented to the matches was to design a product that would prevent an egg from breaking when dropped from a two-story structure. As you can imagine, there were some very noteworthy ideas that worked and a few that despite gallant efforts, resulted in a messy reenactment of Humpty Dumpty's unfortunate end.

Rotarians Partner To Create The First Site-based Plus Program

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunset, combined to create a pilot program called Site-based Plus. This program uses mentors from Rotary and University of Hawaii Rotaract Clubs and serve the children of Palolo Elementary.  The Rotarian Bigs and Palolo Littles meet once a month for a group activity during the school year. Jack Supports Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu

The Jack in the Box Foundation shares BBBSH's passion for helping kids, which is why the Foundation recently donated $15,000 in support of our site-based program and our high school Bigs. The check was presented to BBBSH President/CEO, Dennis Brown, during an event featuring Jack, the fictional founder and ad spokesman for Jack in the Box. Also present were Bigs from Aiea and Campbell High School and Littles from Kaimiloa and Pearlridge Elementary. BBBSH would like to thank the Jack in the Box Foundation and local franchise operator Chris Scanlan for this very generous donation.
